This brilliant promotional cartoon has been well publicised around all the famous Flash blogs, although it was initially broken up into six parts. The creators, Nectarine
Mickeys House of Villains buy , have now posted the full version on their website. It is well worth a visit – a great way to show off the new features of Flash 8 in a funny and interesting way.

In the Valley of Elah the movie
Dog Days of Summer ipod Dog Days of Summer the movie Watch carefully for all the hidden extras relating to Macromedia Flash e.g. the door that opens at the start is the Macromedia ‘M’, how Flash changes the colour of his costume from the old MX2004 to the new Flash 8 colours or the employee of the month is actually the Macromedia Flash project director. That is just from the first 30 seconds!
This cartoon has many uses when actually teaching Flash too – obviously it is an amusing cartoon that conveys the new features of Flash, but it also is a great example of how important content is. This shows off the new features in Flash by actually using and demonstrating most of them! Having given students the opportunity to watch the cartoon, you could then get them to create a list of the new features. Then they could watch the cartoon again and identify when the new features are used. If students find that easy, they could be asked to find all the hidden extras – right down to the sparkle comment during the closing credits.
Alternatively you could show students this cartoon and then the Flash promotional materials on the main Macromedia website. This would enable students to discuss which is most effective and why – are the promotional materials aimed at different audiences? Why was this cartoon even made? Which might internet users be most likely to forward to their friends and colleages?
New in Town aka Chilled In Miami movie Even just focusing on how clever the whole cartoon actually is provides opportunties for discussions. How many new releases of software are shown off with boring and repeteitive demonstations in a geeky way? With this cartoon you have a far more effective way of spreading the message and demonstrating the new features.

Clever but full of lies.

Lies? In what way? I suppose that the video claims could be called into question as the user does need to download the updated Flash player – but even that is a painless experience now – especially compared to the mess you have to go through to download the ‘free’ Real Player.
I cannot really see any other complaints with the claims the cartoon makes. I would be interested to find out more.
Or are you saying that my post was full of lies?
